About makeups for private lessons at Mountain Top
If YOU (the student/family) must cancel a lesson:
The Opus1 system handles makeups for student-cancelled lessons by issuing “makeup credits” for lessons cancelled at least 12 hours before they are scheduled to start. [Example: if a 4 PM lesson is cancelled by 3:59 AM Opus1 will issue a credit]
When you are signed into your Opus1 account, you can cancel any lesson that has been paid for. If you know that you will be missing a lesson that has not yet been paid for, please let the office know and we can do it for you. That will issue a credit for a makeup lesson.
Credits expire if not used or scheduled within 90 days. A student can have 2 credits open at a time.
To schedule a makeup lesson: sign into your account and click “USE” on one of your makeup credits. (Choose the one that expires first!) You will see your instructor’s schedule in the coming weeks. Choose an open time/day and follow the prompts to schedule it.
We cannot offer makeups for lessons that are cancelled less than 12 hours before they’re scheduled to start. Please let us know about same-day cancellations anyhow, as a courtesy to the instructor.
In special circumstances, like an extended absence (for travel, for example) lessons can be put on hold with a return date. We will do our best to hold the day/time for student’s return. You will not be charged for those lessons.
If you absolutely cannot “self-cancel” within the Opus1 system, you may send an email to the office, but the email must be sent more than 12 hours before the lesson to get a makeup credit.
If WE (Mt Top) cancel a lesson (for staff absence/weather/any other reason)
Lessons that we cancel (“staff-cancelled” lessons) will be made up, or if we can’t schedule a makeup we will issue a monetary credit for the cost of the lesson. One week at the end of the fall term and two weeks at the end of the spring the term are set aside for makeups, generally for lessons that we have cancelled during the term. Those makeup credits don’t expire. (There is no makeup week in the summer term)
If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to sign into your Opus1 account, set a password and add a link to your phone, tablet or computer. When you’re signed in, you can see your schedule of lessons and any open or upcoming invoices, correspond with your teacher*, cancel lessons and schedule makeups. You can also opt in or out of automated email and text messages sent by the system.
*If your instructor sends a note, you’ll receive an email. For the most efficient communication, sign into your Opus1 account, where you will see the message displayed, and follow the prompts to reply within the system. If you simply hit “reply” to the notification email, the response will come to the office, where it will need to be forwarded to the instructor.
Group lessons
We do not provide makeups for individual absences from group lessons or classes, but if we must cancel a group lesson it will be made up. If we can’t schedule a makeup, we’ll issue a monetary credit for the cost of the missed class.
