Spring 2018 Group Classes

Register for a Group Class

This will open in a new tab. You will have the option of paying in full or paying $30.00 as the first month’s class fee (tuition) with the balance invoiced in four equal installments in February, March, April and May.  The balance will be adjusted for any scholarships awarded.

This will open in a new tab.  It is important to have your contact information if we must cancel a class or change the time.  There is a nominal one-time $2.00 registration fee.

Please register for group and individual classes online.  You will find it faster and we will be able to process more efficiently.


Spring Term:

The Spring Term begins Monday, January 8th and runs to Friday May 25th and includes 18 weekly classes.

Group Lessons:

Certain Group Classes allow “drop-ins”.  Drop-ins should still “register” with the office so we have name and contact information if time and/or location of the class changes.

Holidays (no classes):

Monday, January 15 (Martin Luther King Day)

Monday, February 19 to Friday, February 23 (Winter Break)

Monday, April 23 to Friday, April 27 (Spring Break)

Any classes canceled by the teacher will be made up during the weeks of May 28 to June 1 or June 4 to June 8. No make ups are available for individual absences from group classes.

Instrument Exploration in Madison Sharon Novak Grades 1-3 Monday (7 classes, Feb 12 – Apr 2) 3:30-4:30 p.m. $150 for 7 weeks Students will explore the ukelele, keyboard and guitar. They will learn basic music skills along with simple songs and strums. Instruments are provided. Open to all. At Madison Elementary School.
Strings After School at Molly Ockett Jenny Huang-Dale Grades 1-4 Monday 2:45-3:45 p.m. $250 for 18 weeks An introduction to string playing for beginning students. Fee includes instrument rental. Teacher will be present at Molly Ockett dismissal (2:30) to supervise kids until the class starts. Open to all. Bus transportation to Molly Ockett from other MSAD 72 elementary schools may be available.
Chamber Ensembles Leigh-Ashley Milne High School and Adult Monday 7:00-9:00 p.m. $180 for 18 weekly sessions This enjoyable playing experience allows students to hone their skills playing in a chamber ensemble. Open to teens and adults who are competent on their instruments. All orchestral instruments and piano are welcome.
Note: ensemble coaching is also available from various Mt Top faculty for groups of four or more, by arrangement. Call the office at 604 447 4737 to discuss.
Adult Singers Workshop Mary Bastoni Adult Monday 7:00-8:30 p.m., at Mary’s studio in Fryeburg, ME $216 per 18 week session or “drop-in” for $12/class Mary Bastoni leads this group through exercises designed to promote good vocal technique without intimidating singers. She chooses repertoire for singers, and sometimes singers bring their own requests, and she works to polish songs. Most of all, the group has a great time singing together! Taught in Fryeburg.
Strings After School in Madison Leigh-Ashley Milne Grades 4-6 Tuesday (7 classes, Feb 12 – Apr 3) 3:30-4:40 p.m. $216 per 18 week session or “drop-in” for $12/class An introduction to violin, viola and cello. Instrument rental is included; students will try each instrument and learn the basics of string playing. Students may take their instruments home to practice. Open to all; taught at Madison Elementary School.
Intro to Jam Band Chad Cummings Kids and Adults Tuesday 3:30-4:00 $144 per 18 week session or “drop-in” for $9 per class/Free to students taking private lessons Intro to Jam Band is a chance to begin learning the Jam Band tunes so that ultimately the student can join Jam Band. It is designed for musicians who wish to begin improvising and playing music in a band setting. MTMC will provide bass, guitar, and percussion for those who do not have their own instruments. The Jam Band explores rock, jazz, pop, and other forms of improvisational music. Attendees should have basic playing skills on their instruments.
Cover Band Chad Cummings Kids – Adults Tuesday 4:15-5:15 p.m. $180 per 18 week session or “drop-in” for $11 per class/Free to students taking private lessons Cover Band is designed for musicians who wish to add an element of singing to their ensemble playing in the rock, jazz, and pop styles. Attendees should have a strong musical foundation on their instruments.
Jam Band Chad Cummings Teens and Adults Tuesday 5:30-6:30 $180 per 18 week session or “drop-in” for $11 per class/Free to students taking private lessons Mountain Top’s Jam Band provides the opportunity for musicians to improvise and play music in a band setting. Mountain Top Music Center will provide bass, guitar, and percussion for those who do not have their own instruments. The Jam Band is grounded in rock, but also explores a fusion of jazz, blues and pop. Attendees should have basic playing skills on their instruments, and players of all types of instruments are welcome.
Community String Band Shana Aisenberg High School and Adult Wednesday 6:30-7:45 p.m. $243 per 18 week session or “drop in” for $15 Learn to play traditional New England, Appalachian, and Celtic music. Repertoire includes reels, jigs, hornpipes, hoedowns, rags,marches, and waltzes. We’ll explore the roles of different instruments in a string band and how to create harmonies, accompaniments, and arrangements. Tunes are taught by ear, but written music can be provided. Attendees should have basic playing skills on their instruments. Class not limited to stringed instruments. This course is on-going throughout the year. Players may drop-in any time to join.
Community Orchestra Ellen Schwindt Adults and Teens Wednesday 7:00-9:00 p.m. Free Location: Kennett Middle School

Music for Babies Sharon Novak Birth-2.5 years  Thursday  9:30-10:00 a.m. Free Babies from birth through two years old play interactive games involving familiar songs, rhymes, and rhythms. Activities are designed to stimulate  cognitive development.
Pre-school Music Sharon Novak 2.5-5 years Thursday 10:30 – 11:15 $144 per 18 week session, or “drop-in” for $9 per class Children use familiar folk songs to learn principles of rhythm and pitch. Through singing, dancing, and the playing of rhythm instruments, children lay a foundation for further music study. Prereading skills are incorporated in drawing and coloring activities.
Blues for Adults Chad Cummings Adults Thursday 11:30-1:00 p.m. $270 per 18 week session This group playing experience will teach players to improvise over blues forms while playing through many of the most enduring old blues standards. Instruction will include music theory, ear training, and some basic music notation. Attendees should have basic playing skills on their instruments, and players of all types of instruments are welcome. Performance opportunities throughout the semester.
Adult Strings Ensemble Jenny Huang-Dale Adults Thursday 1:15-2:15 p.m. $216 per 18 week session Early – intermediate ensemble for cello and other strings.

Youth Ensemble Ellen Schwindt Students with 3+ years of playing experience Thursday 5-6:30 p.m. $180 per 18 week session/Free for students taking private lessons For students with 3+ years of playing experience. FREE to students taking private lessons. Youth Ensembles will play as a large group and as smaller groups. Ensembles will prepare several concerts during the school year, sometimes in conjunction with other groups. All instruments are welcome.  Students are encouraged to select and plan their own ensembles – duos, trios, quartets etc.

There is no need to sign in to view the schedule, but when you click “Add to Cart” to reserve seats, you will be asked to sign in with a user ID and password. If you have bought a concert ticket in the last several years, that info was emailed to you on or around April 26, 2018. If you have misplaced your info, click on “Forgot” and enter the primary email for your household (the one that receives concert directions and/or invoices from Mt Top). That address will then receive an email with your credentials (you may have to check your spam).  You can also call our office between 10 and 5  Monday through Thursday and we will give you your information. If you are a new user (never registered for a lesson, purchased a concert ticket, or recently donated to Mountain Top), you must create an account in order to purchase a concert ticket. You will receive email confirmation of your payment.

A few hints:

  • The Firefox browser is not supported, and the system is not optimized for mobile devices, although it may work OK on tablets.
  • To see concerts in chronological order, select Sort By Start Date in the upper-right corner of the listing screen.
  • Ignore any references to selecting a “pay plan.”

IMPORTANT: When making a credit card payment, please the note the check box below. If left unchecked, your credit card will be securely saved in our system, and will replace any card we currently have on file.


Please indicate any seating or other special requests in the “optional comments” section of the payment form. If you would like to be seated with other guests, please provide their names and we will do our best to seat you together.
