COASTAL CONNECTIONS: Art Show
featuring seascape artwork by Jan Eskedal and J.P. Goodwin
Jan Eskedal and J.P. Goodwin will be exhibiting paintings at Mountain Top Music in Conway during March, April, and May featuring varying views of coastal subjects created over a period of years.
The paintings were done from a variety of locations up and down the New England coast including Cape Cod, Georges Island in Boston Harbor, Gloucester and Rockport, MA, Monhegan Island, Port Clyde, North Haven Island, Castine and Tenant’s Harbor, ME and even including one from Honfleur harbor in France. The lure of the sea has been a strong motivator for these artists who have created their paintings mostly “en plein aire”, painting outdoors on location under varying, changing weather conditions. Both artists enjoy working in the immediate and spontaneous medium of watercolor but Jan has also included one painting in acrylics in the show. Although both work in watercolor, their styles and approaches vary. JP works in a transparent, fluid style and Jan builds up textures and details using dry brush techniques over background washes.
For all who are fascinated by the sea, this exhibit should evoke memories of pleasant days and fresh ocean breezes at a favorite coastal location.
J.P.Goodwin has won numerous awards in a variety of mediums including watercolor, graphite and fiber.
Over the years she has been a principle in five galleries in Marblehead, MA and also exhibited in San Francisco, Denver, Georgia, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She is an artist member of the Mt. Washington Valley Arts Assoc., Marblehead Arts Assoc.,Swampscott Arts Assoc. and LynnArts.
JP has been painting professionally for over 40 years, attended Garland College and UGA and holds degrees in Fine Arts and Residential Design.
For twenty years JP also’ designed artful gardens’ across the North Shore of Massachusetts, taught Floral Design, Home Landscape Design and Drawing at North Shore Community College and the Marblehead Arts Assoc.
New England holds her attention with it’s dramatic light and varied panoramas from the ocean, her first love, to the mountains, her new home. She prefers plein aire painting to capture the light and the ever changing moods of her subjects.
Both artists are on the board of the Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association and are active in promoting art and artists in the valley. Jan is President of the MWVAA and JP is active in organizing the Friday Painters group which meets every Friday at the Mt. Washington Valley Visual Arts Center or outdoors to paint.
Mountain Top Music Center presents a diverse array of concerts and programs to delight audiences of all ages; its faculty teaches more than 200 students---from infants to senior citizens---each semester.
