Ellen SchwindtPiano, Strings, and Children's Music
Ellen is a native of Salina, Kansas where she received a thorough musical education, beginning before age 5. An older sister was her first piano teacher, but she studied more formally from age 6 through 18, adding the violin from age 9. After a liberal arts education (including music) at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, she took a master’s degree in education. More recently she has pursued piano studies with Laura Kargul and violin studies with Jennifer Elowitch. This is her twenty-first year as a teacher, and for the last decade she has been at Mountain Top Music in Conway, New Hampshire, where she has been executive director, music director, and a piano and violin teacher. She has played in orchestras, accompanied a swing choir, and fiddled for hootenannies, contra-dance, and folk bands. While she dabbled in composing from about age 13, she began to compose more seriously in her late 30s, producing a Cantata, an Opera, an Oboe Concerto, and many smaller piano, chamber music, and orchestral works.
